Lagouts ending races Empty Lagouts ending races

I want to just respectfully put out my opinion about the lagout = mechanical failure rule that is in some of our race series.

It's my personal opinion that there is a limit to which we can make these things realistic. Art imitates life, yes, but unfortunately not always very well, and sometimes you have to keep differences from your video games and your real life. Like not shooting people because you play violent games. Ok, bad comparison.

I complained long and hard when Raceboy lagged out and got no points for a race in the IMSA cup, he has come back and will probably win the IMSA cup because he's just a great racer. I want to just get that out in the open first - it bugged me a ton when it happened to somebody else. And I complained like I did because I knew that when it happened to me, I was going to be fucking pissed. And now it has, in an endurance competition one our of guys lagged out and we'll be 45 miles behind the other drivers. That's not simply something you can drive your way out of?

The question has to be asked why should we continue to race? well, because we signed up for it for one, that's where it begins and ends for me if you quit shit because you get screwed I've got no respect for you.

There has to be something else... In the endurance series, take the last place team and dock 2-5 miles in addition. That's a nice hole to have to crawl out of, but at least feasible.

In a normal series, you find out how many guys would guarantee he would finish ahead of them and give him that point total, then dock a few for a mechanical failure. That's how this should be adjusted. Video games are a waste of time.... Inherently. They don't need to be any more a waste of time than they already are, and for that reason I'll not join another series with this rule in effect. This is not to blame Rowdy, he is simply going with rules we already have in place but I believe they are broken.

i agreee but 45 miles at the end of the season will not be much .
also lag has been getting worse lately:(

mending that rule should not be that big of a problem i imagine if we get a big vote or something

Well you should be ahead of the Black Turner BMW. I was wrecked by a bit of lag in the second stint which gave me almost 100% damage everywhere. Then I lagged out with 65 miles done in the second stint...

^ that sucks bro

After looking at the facts objectively, I have to rescind my statement that this completely unfair.

I did a very rudimentary analysis comparing real-life series, and what it means to blow an engine in one, to ours... and what a lagout costs us. Surprisingly, both of the series that I'm in / have knowledge in are technically pretty fair - within the range displayed by some of their real-life counterparts in fact.

Please note in the scores section below (right hand side) NASCAR and Formula 1 are mislabeled/swapped.
Lagouts ending races Ptsanalysis

So in the table above the gray top 3 races are real-life series and the bottom two are IMSA and Nein Shiza which I'm running in and/or know the scoring system.

You can see that assuming 15 competitive drivers in Nascar, crashing out has the least impact as they run 37 races etc. In Formula (10 competitive assumed) 1 it's a bit worse. In the "real" IMSA (12 competitive drivers) in 2012 it was the most damaging of the 3 real series when you crashed out or had mechanical failure leading to a bottom finish.

By comparison, our IMSA was almost spot-on with the real IMSA.... Pretty good I suppose. Nein Shiza says 6.7% if you use 3 competitive drivers (teams in this case), 6.5% if you assume four. I could be persuaded either way I suppose.

I still think that because this is completely out of our control, and not part of the skill of our team's mechanics or anything like that, we should be more toward the NASCAR end of the range than the IMSA.

If I was running a series after looking at all this I'd aim for about a 2.5% to 4.0% impact on competitive points for the season by lagging out. Basically instead of going all the way down to the bottom I'd subtract the point total of 4% competitive season points from the score they would have got.

But that said... This is clearly "close enough" to not go apeshit about, so I probably should have researched it first.

Most people wouldn't probably wouldn't have researched it, pretty interesting. I know it was a mistake but could you imagine a F1 grid of 43!
