80's & 90's Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) Series
presented by Realistic Racing

SERIES INTRODUCTION

The precursor to today's "Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters," the DTM series of the late 80's and early 90's was a raucous, high speed series ran primarily on city streets or air bases, many times with temporary pit areas.  The tracks most of us know that were ran then included the venerable Nürburgring Nordschleife and Nürburgring GP Track, and a Hockenheimring track that was much different than it presents today.  Dominant cars of the era included the BMW M3 (87/89 Championships), the Ford Sierra RS 500 Cosworth (1988 Champion), Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evo (1992 Champion), and Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI (1993 Champion).  Audi won two championships in 1990 and 1991, but did so with way fewer cars on the grid.  For example, in 1990 there were four BMW Works Teams (up to 3 cars each), four works duos from Mercedes, and just one Audi... which won.  According to my source listed below, "Audi's  'twisted' crankshaft was finally declared illegal in 1992 and after two championships this was hard to swallow for Audi so they decided to quit."

This series will include the few tracks that were run in real life, but also includes the most similar tracks I've found in the game that play counterpart to the real tracks that were run in those years.  As a result there are some tracks in here that you may have never run races before on Realistic Racing or anywhere else.

Our qualifying sessions will be a little different as there will be just two flying laps (one flying lap for Le Mans) that will be run right before the race.  The Nürburgring grid order will be determined via reverse order on season points, with 5-second runoffs.

We will be having a long race and short race each week, aimed to be 45 minutes and 15 minutes respectfully.  The first race will be reverse grid order based on qualifying results.  The second race will have a normal grid order based on the combined lobby points from qualifying and race 1. In other words, if you qualified first but couldn't get all the way to the top starting from the back you're going to have a slightly better starting spot than wherever you finished.

Disclaimer:  My knowledge of the series is extremely limited, all information provided by various sources, primarily http://touringcarracing.net/Pages/DTM.html

80's & 90's Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) Series
presented by Realistic Racing

DATES & TIMES

The races will be held on Monday evenings beginning August 5, 2013.  We will have a 15 minute practice session, followed by a very quick qualifying session, and then racing at half past. The schedule will be as follows

Series Introduction and Rules Pwmm

200 am UK time - Practice (900 PM EST / 600 PM PST)
215 am UK time - Qualifying (915 PM EST / 615 PM PST)
230 am UK time - Race (930 PM EST / 630 PM PST)

There will be no waiting for stragglers. the racing will start promptly.  Please note short pit windows.  They are designed to make us race, not pass each other in the pits.

PROCEDURES

Qualifying will be held immediately before the race, just after a short practice. Each qually session will have a 2 flying lap (3 laps total) period except for the Le Mans week when it will be 1 flying lap.  When we race the Nordschleife, we will be doing reverse season points with a 5-second runoff start.

POINTS

Points System

Series Introduction and Rules T70q

If you take damage you ARE expected to pit if you end up on your roof you're classed as a DNF and a DNF = 0 points.  Please note  If your car is damaged to the point you're finding it difficult to drive, or avoid hitting other drivers, you may retire (pull to the side of the road and notify the other racers of your location).  You will get a DNF but it may help you to avoid penalties incurred for contact with other drivers.  Within this series there will be accidents, a DNF is much more acceptable than hitting another driver.

Note:  This series includes bonus points for being a top 6 qualifier and posting a post-race summary (one paragraph minimum) and/or photo.  One post-race point per race, max.

DRIVING RULES

Please can all drivers make sure you have read & understood the RR driving rules as they will be STRICTLY implemented.
Please pay particular attension to the part about staying on the track. This rule has, over recent series, been either ignored or delberately flouted. Two wheels must be on the designated track, as shown by the white lines at all times. I and others will be keeping an eye on this, with heavy penalties handed out to those not heeding the rules.

ATTENDANCE RULES

A DNS without notification will result in a 2 pt deduction from each race.

RESTARTS

A restart will only be granted in the event of a lag spike in the first 3 laps that is confirmed by two or more persons.  No other reason will allowed for a restart.  If you say there is one maximum restart due to an accident, then somebody else usually gets screwed the next race so there will be no restarts other than lag spikes in the first 3 laps.

LAGOUTS
Any lagout will be treated as a mechanical failure/DNF.

PENALTIES

SITE WIDE FORZA RACING PENALTY SYSTEM
Driver at fault
Small - 1 point less than medium (1 point) - physical error - race incident that is identifiable as one person's fault and results in damage or loss of position
Medium - 10% rounded down of 1st place points (2 points) - error in judgement - wrecking somebody when you clearly should not have made a move
Large - 1 point more than medium (3 points) - egregious accident ruining another person's car or race, or consistent bad driving over a period of time.

Track Cutting
Track cutting is cutting the inside of a corner putting all 4 wheels over the white line and gaining time by doing so whether it is on purpose or not but the key is if the car gains time ie It enables the car to run the corner at a higher speed where the corner leads to a straight an extra ⅔ mph at the corner can equate to 5 to 8 mph at the end of that straight If the car runs wide etc and loses speed etc or the driver realizes the mistake and safetly lifts the throttle in recognition of the cut that will work in the drivers favor

Track Cutting Penalty
Because it is easy to accidently run slightly over the white line (which in all racing denotes the edge of the track) we are saying a clear track cut is time gaining and about 1 width or more of the car over the line that makes this ruling clear cut.

30% of the race distance rounded up ie: 10 lap race = 4 track cuts equals penalty
The penalty is to be decided Im thinking equal to medium offence which is 11% of 1st place points rounded which in a 10 lap race that would equal 2 point penalty

Please note, we have all been a backmarker at some point due to damage or whatever reason.  All drivers are expected to maintain awareness at all times.  Holding up first-lap cars in this situation will result in a 1-point penalty if reported and confirmed.  As indicated previously, if an accident is caused due to bad car condition it will be assessed like any other penalty above, so take a DNF if your car is badly damaged.  We will have a race timer in the event people need to pull over.

Prizes sponsored by

3S Designs, Dellisan Tuning.

Forza Credits aren't worth what they used to be.  Most people aren't claiming them after race series. In addition, a unique tuned and painted car courtesy of Dellisan Tuning and 3S Designs will be presented to the season podium winners.

A driver of the day will be awarded by Hellisan for good driving, a quality finish, good sportsmanship, etc.  I will post my own photo and/or race summary for this person at the end of the race.  They need not post one to get the post-race point.
