RACE 9 - HOCKENHEIM, GERMANY
Race 9 - HOCKENHEIM, GERMANY
July 7, 2013 - 4:30 pm Eastern, U.S.
Reopened in 1966, after the original oval was cut in two by the construction of an autobahn, Hockenheim was radically changed again in 2002. The legendary sweeping forest straights were removed in place of a tighter, more modern layout that boasts a much larger spectator capacity.
The new Hockenheim is a very different challenge to the old layout, but the old Motodrom section, with its testing mix of elevation changes and double-apex corners, has been retained in the new layout.
Opinion on the new circuit is still very much divided among the drivers and teams.
Car set-up is a compromise between this twisty infield section and the straights at the back of the circuit. The teams spent last week’s three-day test session at the track trying to establish good levels of mechanical grip with their cars, while minimising the amount of aerodynamic downforce in order to be fast in a straight line.
Stability under braking is also important because there are a number of heavy braking areas on the lap, particularly at the Spitzkehre hairpin (Turn 6) where the cars slow from 310kph (193mph) to 60kph (37mph). It’s one of the slowest corners on the Formula One calendar and the best overtaking point at Hockenheim.
With only two high-speed corners on the lap, into and out of the Motodrom, tyre wear is not such a factor at this race, but the high track temperatures sometimes witnessed in late July can create large fluctuations in grip.

Re: RACE 9 - HOCKENHEIM, GERMANY
Thanks Owen! I'll look for an appropriate hotlap description and send or feel free to post if you can get a decent descriptive one from a driver's perspective.
(Nice girl choice.) We are getting close to Hungary...the pinnacle of hotness (or maybe Czech or Russia) by birth. lol.
I am away until late Wednesday, so this is good. Thanks again.

A shame that if I run this race it won't be with my wheel! This and Nurburgring (can't wait for the 2013 release!) are my favourite circuits in Forza, and I know this is one of Luongo's favourites.
My attendance depends on a couple of things - have I been drinking singles or doubles by the pool LOL.

Oh my. Quite slick Owen. Everyone pay attention to the track now. lol.
This is one of my least favorites. But Nurburg is one of the all time best!! However, Spa is the King of them all. I intend to practice like a mad scientist for that one.

Spa! Used to be my most raced track (in other racing games) until I fell in love with Forza! I canvassed so hard on the T10 forums for it to be included - fell on deaf ears! and now it's in F1 I hate it LOL! But maybe that's because every time I've raced on it in the F1 game it's been freaking raining!

Re: RACE 9 - HOCKENHEIM, GERMANY
When I went to Spa, it was like I could now die a happy man. I had gotten to the top of my racing world and no longer needed to wonder what the pinnacle was like. We had seats in the grandstands just left of the uphill part of Eau Rouge. To say that corner series is the best in racing, is an understatement, in my opinion. I have never seen anything like it. Doubt I ever will. It was like throwing a roller coaster S-Kink on the backstretch of Daytona and telling the teams -- "no need to slow down, just build the fastest machine you can think of." Mind stopping stuff. I will save my real insights into that section for the race intro here.
I too have trouble driving in F1 at Spa, but I suspect that's not because it's a track that I will grow to love driving (with all it's speed and flow and such) but because it's a damn hard challenge. If it wasn't, it would not be Spa.
I intend to make a very special posting (intro) when that one comes along. Owen, feel free to get with me with any additional ideas, incentives, graphics, or home videos. Goes for anyone.

LMAO. Harry, I have decided to start you with a five place grid penalty for corner cutting in anticipation of your transgressions. That's for the race after Hockenheim, BTW. The game will black flag you Sunday. If it doesn't, hmmmm....I wonder if maybe that means you didn't cut corners? (Thinking). Nah....couldn't be. Oh how I wish you could record your race just so I could see the warnings. lol.
When I put my video up, please go easy. If I don't get a drive through for corner cutting, it'll be a miracle. But, mercifully, I think the game recognizes this track has many corners that are easy to cut (especially the first turn) and so they relax a little bit on that here. At least I hope so. I know the drivers IRL do it more than usual here, but some places have twinkies even, I think. So beware.

"Spitzkehre hairpin"
Spitzkehre (Spitz•keh•re) f - (Rail)=switchback turn, (Ski)=kick turn
German is so funny. I semi-learned it in college and while living over there. My guess is that, at Hockenheim, it will translate to "kick my ass" turn.

Re: RACE 9 - HOCKENHEIM, GERMANY
Who knows, maybe not. I know from watching the race last year( I think )? It's the green on the left side on exit of 1 that is the big no-no. Might be my grand finale in Pro IF I take up the GameStop offer of an additional 50% trade in for it. She has people looking to get it and with NCAA football out Tuesday, I might just do it.... Tempting to get within a couple of dollars to what I actually paid for it!

Re: RACE 9 - HOCKENHEIM, GERMANY
Owen, that's a weak excuse. lol. But all is forgiven, since I think Del mentioned something about T.V's in Liverpool being unable to be run except by rabbit ears.
You missed a good one, but I bet you had a better one! True cause for celebration in the Isles. Normal Continental/American domination should resume next year. lol.
On a positive note, you really helped out team Lotus!
Way to go Bronn. You are winning without much effort these days. Balances my sorry ass out, thank God. I'm still amazed, though at the tightness of today's pack. Plus we had a GREAT real life F1 race too! That makes too in a row. Golden years for F1....

Well, I don't have much room to talk. Although I do drive like Grosjean on occasion (not like he did today though).

Re: RACE 9 - HOCKENHEIM, GERMANY
I tell ya, it was a tough race Owen. For as few (don't laugh) mistakes as I made I still almost got caught by HARRY!!! of all drivers, at the last minute. (kidding Harry, you are indeed improving).
The best is when you watch the second video, at the start, and you hear "be careful not to go over the white line) then BAM, a penalty comes up for me. I was basically getting back into my chair after resetting the video camera. lol.
