F1 2011 100% race

Ok guys heres where im at.

First off October, Im sorry I haven't gotten back to you about the idea for the rules and setting up the league. I have driven with the settings on professional and it will be tough but progress on moving forward is possible. I'm sorry I didn't team up with you and will be driving with Kikrox in the Caterham. You now have a teamate so hopefully you aren't pissed with me. I will help you regardless during the season so feel free to ask me questions.

Rox obviously with what ive said above I will be your teammate. My schedule is very tight at the moment and we will have to set up practices when we can.

I think we need to start posting on this section of the forum and not via pm October as nothing that is being discussed is confidential in terms of team selection.

I also think that we need to create a new Discussion forum as this is the one that was setup by tweed and is dated. I'm sure Shane can help sort that out.

If Luongo gets the game he can team up with Owen and we'll have 6 Human drivers on the grid along with the 16 AI making a full grid!!! Which is sweet.

This series will be very difficult as these cars are absolute handfuls to drive. I think that we should all be looking to make some time to practice. There are also Tuning tips that can be found via the web along with driving technique so check those out.

Anyone looking to run some laps don't be afraid to ask and I'll join if possible.

I'm so glad you feel the way you do. I feel the same way.

First off, I set up the rules and the lottery system whereby the winners get to pick their teammate, and Rox won fair and square. Since Bronn and I have run Lotus in another league and is a good driver I'm friends with, I thought Rox would be crazy not to want you for Caterham since you are a really good driver, have tremendous resources here, and want to be in the same car. I got second pick (Bronn) so that left Owen. There is nothing to be sorry about. I think it worked out as best as it could.

Personally, I would have loved to run with any one of you guys. I just want to run. And you have my promise that, at least from my perspective, this won't have anything to do with "team" rivalry (unless some friendly slinging of shit could be a fun diversion), but will have everything to do with clean, fun, challenging, fast, and, yes, different, racing. Luongo teaming up with Owen would be perfect. Six live is just about perfect for where we are at (baby steps). People will realize how much fun/different/challenging the F1 series is over time and we will get bigger. The game can only take 16 per lobby, so unless admin grows too, it will have to be capped there.

I also agree about setting up our own threads and forum section. We are kind of a stepchild now, but that's ok, it's working so far. All I can do is try to organize it. I have no ability to move forums, create banners, lock threads, etc. I'll have to rely on others with more authority to do that. For now, our small group knows where to look to find our series. I've just been using PM because I was not sure everyone checked this section regularly. From now on, I'll point everything here that's not confidential. (I like the banner. Even if the thread itself is fairly old, it's insightful though to see how many people were gung ho and then just vaporized. Hopefully, they will find their way back.)

Bronn and I have been thought about 10 races in the other league. (A bunch of Europeans who kick the shit out of us, but we learn a lot). So, I have done a shitload of digging both via internet and picking brain re: setups, strategy, track guides, and software issues. I'm still a novice, but I think you are exactly right about this being a sharing and learning experience. We are all here to help one another. That's what makes it fun. In that vein, I need to share what I know, however useful it may or may not be. I'll start another thread for each race, where everything about that race, including tech tips, talk about lap times, educational videos, setup guides, and results can be posted. The game is very different than Forza, so I think the more we share here, the better. While you don't have graphic design, differential settings, or full video of the races, you do have a lot of work that went in to DRIVING. Imagine that. And to that end, your concentration had better be laser-like every lap, all the while going at twice the speed and having to deal with KERS, DRS, rain, etc. I feel much more drained after an F1 race, but it's a good drained. I don't think we could do 100% races.

How about an informal practice session on Saturday. I need to practice setting up the lobby anyway. Afternoon or evening works, although we have 8 hours of time zone to deal with here. I'll try to be on a lot. Also because I can't wait for both the real F1 to start and to go racing with you guys.

I've ordered the game, hopefully arrives on Saturday.

So glad to have you luongo. Now this is a real F1 crowd shaping up with three countries represented.

Did some brief testing to get "how to run a lobby" down tonight. My teammate was there, and you guys know we do not claim to be fast drivers. But we came to three conclusions that I think will help.

1) A 24 car grid is too many (I'd say 10 max since that will equal (16) the cap on live drivers) AI because penalties are very easy to trigger and the more cars greatly enhances your chances, even if you do everything you can to stay clean. We were getting 2-4 penalties in just 5 laps every time, usually because the cars were unpredictable and slow, which leads to...

2) Pro difficulty setting for AI makes them more prone to brake is haphazard ways, usually nowhere near normal speed, and both of us were faster than at least half the field. So setting the AI on legend will only help their performance be more "normal" and even if they beat us, we are not racing them for points.

3) Setting the penalties to "reduced" is the only way to reduce what are sure to be some very upsetting penalties. Even though everyone is going to experience this and it's frustrating, reducing the harshness will ease the pain somewhat. We also found that if you DO get a place/time penalty, on the reduced setting, you can get the places back by running subsequent clean laps. Since most of the penalties happen early, this is a good thing and will ease the frustration. And still, if you hit a fellow driver and it's obvious who's at fault, the game will still penalize you.

I agree with the reduced penalties setting, that's how I run in my career, but with the same as F1 2011, I believe that the game is biased towards AI drivers because I have yet to see them get penalized but I will say the reduced setting is a little more forgiving and is needed.

In our test sessions, Bronn and I got penalized plenty (er qwere trinh yo induce the . even of the reduced setting, they they will pop you.

I encourage everyone to record their race, if possible. Some use a
specific capture device, others point a video camera at the screen, or some sort of computer computer capture card in your computer that had a at least a 90 min, recording option. I'm going to try to record mine, but it's dicey at best.
