iRacing General Discussion
I know that this is an Xbox dominant site, but does anyone race on iRacing?

Re: iRacing General Discussion
I'm contemplating buying a wheel and a subscription. I know every single site on the internet recommends iracing for sim racing, but is it that much better than Forza?

Depends on what you mean by better?GuNzAbLaZiN69 wrote:I'm contemplating buying a wheel and a subscription. I know every single site on the internet recommends iracing for sim racing, but is it that much better than Forza?
iRacing is a sim and Forza is more of an arcade. iRacing has a better physics engine than forza. And when you crash in Forza you kinda brush it off, crashing in iRacing reduces your license level. You need to have certain license levels to race certain cars.

Yeah, I've done some research. I'm definitely going to get it. I've already ordered a logitech g27 wheel for it too .

What kind of cars are there besides what they advertise on the site. It seems like a pretty skimpy list to me.
How is painting? That RR looks amazing when compared to Forza paints.

You can design your own paintjob with an iRacing template. But I never mess with that. They have predesigned designs that you can change the colors on which is all I do.s0ul harv3st wrote:What kind of cars are there besides what they advertise on the site. It seems like a pretty skimpy list to me.

I can upgrade my current system for about 250 to this
AM3+ 3.8Ghz quad
8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866mhz
ASUS mobo with onboard video Radeon HD3000
The only thing I don't know will pass is the onboard video. I know its frowned upon in PC gaming but the system requirements say Radeon X1800. What do you guys think?

It's up to you man, I have a pretty basic computer that runs with about 40 FPS. But if you are eventually gonna run a 3 screen setup, then yeah I'd do it.s0ul harv3st wrote:I can upgrade my current system for about 250 to this

I believe you can get a 3 month trial for iracing from this website. I regretfully went ahead and bought 3 months of membership before I realized this option was available.
So, if you guys have a PC powerful enough, you should definitely test it out.

8GB of RAM isn't necessary for iracing, so you might be able to save enough to upgrade your gpu even further. Is this for a laptop or a tower?s0ul harv3st wrote:I can upgrade my current system for about 250 to this

Re: iRacing General Discussion
The painting is simple to me, a little complicated setting it up but once you get everything downloaded its simple. Copy and paste for all the logos that are on google images. All the templates are on the iracing.com member site. 100 times easier to paint custom cars on iracing.s0ul harv3st wrote:What kind of cars are there besides what they advertise on the site. Re: iRacing General Discussion
The RAM will save me like 40$. A decent entry level card is at least $100.
How much was your card Brad?

Re: iRacing General Discussion
I could also get away with just a video upgrade but my old board is PCI Express 16. Future upgrades of the board and CPU would require the GPU anyways so I'll save money buying it with the rebuild.

Re: iRacing General Discussion
I'm not very knowledgeable about all this stuff, so my suggestion would be to ask the guys over at reddit. They always give very good advice and can get you the best bang for your buck, no matter what situation. Just post your specs and budget at http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/ and within a few hours you should (hopefully) have some pretty good suggestions. Oh, and let them know what your intentions are so they know what you are trying to get out of your computer.s0ul harv3st wrote:I could also get away with just a video upgrade but my old board is PCI Express 16. Need a mobo and cpu for that. My current board is PCI express 16 not 3.0.
Sick card though. 154$ plus a 25$ rebate = $130
